How much does a day trip from Cartagena to the Rosario Islands cost?

A day trip from Cartagena costs COP 185,000 to 837,000 per person (roughly USD 60 to 265), depending on the club: these are the entry prices of the 27 day trips you can book online with us. On the Rosario Islands, the 14 plans start at COP 397,000 to 692,000 (about USD 125 to 215). Most include the round-trip boat and lunch. On 12 of them the dock tax is paid separately, COP 18,000 to 40,300 per person, usually in cash.

What a Rosario Islands day trip is

A Rosario Islands day trip is a full day at sea: you leave Cartagena early in the morning and then come back in the middle of the afternoon, without staying overnight on the islands. It is also the simplest way to see the Rosario Islands, an archipelago of 27 coral islands inside a national marine park, about 45 minutes from the city by speedboat. Today almost every day trip works like a beach club day pass: the return boat, your bed or lounger on the sand, a welcome cocktail and lunch come in one price per person, so the day goes by between turquoise water and the club’s restaurant.

How to choose your day trip: by vibe, distance and budget

Every card above carries a label for the kind of day it is, so start there. Family: clubs that welcome children, as well as a quiet beach and no loud music. Party: adults only, a DJ and, of course, an open bar. Relax: a bed facing the sea, lunch and calm, rather than a party. Luxury: a pool as well as attentive service and good food. Exclusive: a private island or, instead, an island hotel with limited places. Adventure: snorkeling, kayaks, a catamaran or, if you like, the islands farthest out. Then think about distance: Tierra Bomba is 10 to 30 minutes from Cartagena, the Rosario Islands and Barú 45 to 60, and San Bernardo more than two hours. There is no road to the islands: the only way to get there is by sea. Some clubs, especially on Tierra Bomba, leave from other piers; each option’s page shows its pier and exact time.

On 12, instead, they are paid separately on the day, almost always in cash. Day trips run from COP 185,000 per person on Tierra Bomba to more than COP 1,000,000 for the premium private island plans; most clubs in the Rosario Islands and Barú sit between COP 300,000 and 600,000. Each price is per person, in Colombian pesos, and covers exactly what the option’s page lists, while anything outside the plan is paid at the club. Also, clubs that accept children have a child rate.

Beach club day pass or private boat: how to decide

For one or two couples, or a family, the day pass is the logical choice, because it gives you a fixed schedule, a price per person and a club with everything ready. Groups of eight or more, instead, can book the private island and have an area to themselves. And if you want total freedom, choosing the route, stopping at Cholón, Barú or Playa Blanca and coming back at sunset, a private boat splits the cost among everyone and often comes to a similar price per person, without the club or lunch. Weather, safety and licenses

The clubs run boats registered with DIMAR, Colombia’s maritime authority, with a life jacket for every passenger and a certified crew, while Colombia Luxury Group sells under National Tourism Registry number 300352. If the Port Authority closes the port because of rough sea or bad weather, you rebook at no cost or get a 100% refund. The dry season, from December to April, brings the calmest sea; from May to November the boats keep running and only stop when the port is officially closed. How long does it take to get to the Rosario Islands from Cartagena?

About 45 minutes to an hour by speedboat, although it depends on the island and the sea. Tierra Bomba is 10 to 30 minutes from the city, and the San Bernardo Islands take more than two hours.

Where does the boat leave from, and at what time?

Most Rosario Islands day trips leave from La Bodeguita pier, in Cartagena’s historic center, between 7:15 and 8:00 a.m., and then come back between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. Some clubs, especially on Tierra Bomba, use other piers. The pier and the exact time are on each option’s page, as well as in your confirmation.

Is the pier tax included in the price?

It depends on the day trip, because not every club includes it. On 12 of the 27 day trips there is nothing to pay at the pier: the tax and the insurance are in the price, or do not apply. Can children come on a Rosario Islands day trip?

It depends on the club. Several take children from 3 or 4 years old with a child rate, while others are only for guests over 12, 14 or 18. Look for the Family label on the cards and check the option’s page before you book.

Can I change the date or cancel?

Each club has its own policy, shown on the option’s page before you pay. In general you can change the date at no cost with 48 hours’ notice, subject to availability; with less notice there is no refund. If the Port Authority suspends sailing, you get a full refund or a free date change.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If the Port Authority closes the port or the club cancels because of sea conditions, you rebook at no cost or get a 100% refund.

Do any of these day trips go to Cholón?

Two of them are on the Cholón inlet in Barú: the Aura Hotel day pass, as well as Hotel Las Islas. For the floating party in Cholón itself, where boats anchor side by side, the option is instead a private boat or a yacht with your own route.

Can I book a Rosario Islands day trip online?

Yes. Choose your date on the option you want, pay by card in Colombian pesos and then your confirmation arrives by email. You do not need to message anyone first, although the Colombia Luxury Group team is on WhatsApp if you have a question.

How do I get my confirmation?

When you complete the payment you receive your booking voucher by email, with the club, the date, the meeting point and the time. Places are confirmed with the payment; if the club has no space on your date, we tell you the same day and you choose another date or a full refund.
